The Rakiura Community Trap Library is open! Help protect the bush and birds in your backyard!
As part of Conservation Week we are opening the doors of our trap library. If you are interested in getting involved in trapping on the island, want to borrow one of our various traps, have any questions or a just curious about what we do or what a trap library is…. pop along to Traill Park this Saturday 22nd of September between 10am and 12noon.
About our trap library:
Operated on a voluntary basis, traps are free to loan. We can provide tips and tricks to get you started or perhaps introduce you to a new type of trap. We would love to widen the scope and help you have access to a trap if you don’t have one or maybe try a new one.
We have a range of traps and bait stations as well as cage traps for live feral cat capture. All have been well tested and have ethical approval for use. Please note: we do not advocate the use of leg hold traps (due to the risk to native wildlife), therefore, these are not available.
We have traps available for rats, possums, feral cats and hedgehogs.
So here’s what you need to do:
- If you live West of Golden Bay Road - you are eligible! – all the rest of you are in our current Project area!
- Come along to our Trap Collection Day - 10am Saturday 22nd Sept 2018 at Traill Park
- Take the trap home and set it up! Bait it and wait….
- Then check it
Too easy!
